For you out there who are still clouded in a mystery about what we actually do other than the shooting session itself, there are a lot more that we do than just photograph a wedding. Most people think that our job scope only involves around photographing an event and everything else will be done by itself. There are even people who are close to me, didn’t even know how my daily routine runs, even though we talked a lot about it and shares opinion every now and then. How weird isn’t it?
I can’t really blame these people, because first of all, wedding photography is still new in the Malay market to be honest. The word ‘new’ is highly subjective, but when you compare it to other industries such as graphic design, computer programming, music, film and painting, then you can see where the line starts. More than that, the ‘wedding photography’ industry among us has been evolved mostly around part- timers and hobbyist, so people don’t really know how full timers work.
Besides the actual day event, what we actually do on weekdays and spare weekends consist of seeing photography from a business point of view, doing sales & marketing which involves meeting people, communicating through phone and emails, research about new marketing opportunities, going to seminars, DESIGN THE ALBUM!, going back and forth to the printers and many more. Not to mention we are also human being, so we do need time for sleep, eat, a good time to watch TV, having a laugh with mates, and taking a bath.
We are no different than your marketing exec next door, nor the pretty lady you used to stalk every morning she goes to her office. Just because not many people know what we’re really doing, doesn’t mean that we work differently. And just because we look happy when we arrive at a wedding, does not mean that we are always happy because we relax too much
To be honest, I am still amazed at how business can sometimes spring the unexpected in life. I have not experienced such thing before, and to get an assignment as short notice as this really opens up my mind more. It teaches us to always be patience in hardship, and be grateful in pleasure. You will never know what is in store for you.
As a wise man said, “it is easy to remember God in hardship, but it is difficult to be grateful in pleasure”. I believe that it is nothing but the absolute truth in this modern era, where everybody keeps saying, “Money is everything”. For me, money is important, but not the most important thing in life. Constant remembrance of God in any situation, good or bad will eventually brings peace of mind that we always in search for.
~ Mr. D, you're right ... i'm very agree with u ...
